Perugia is the capital city of both the region of Umbria in central Italy and the province of Perugia. It was founded by Etruscans and it is a city rich in art, history and monuments. It is the main cultural centre in the region and it is a popular tourist destination and university hub (University for Foreigners). Its old town lies on the top of the Acropolis at an altitude of 450 m (1480 ft) above sea level. Its highest point, Porta Sole, reaches 494 m of altitude (1620 ft) and for that reason it is one of the most populated italian cities located at an altitude higher than 250 m (820 ft). Perugia offers to visitors a lot of amenities and stunning landscapes! Umbria’s capital city is world-famous for its Etruscan, Medieval and Renaissance wonders. Perugia is also well-known for the Umbria Jazz Festival, the most important italian jazz musical event that, since 1973, is hosted every year in this city during the month of July.
